As I reflect on the World Economic Forum 2026 in Davos, I’m struck by both the scale of the challenges discussed—and the even greater opportunity for leaders, organizations, and countries to work together for the collective good.
My colleague Anurang Revri and I spent the week immersed in panels, debates, forums, side meetings, and 1:1 conversations with some of the world’s leading thinkers across technology, healthcare, finance, policy, and industry. Unsurprisingly, AI dominated nearly every discussion—closely followed by geopolitics, sustainability, energy, comfortable footwear, and (of course) Barry’s Piano Bar (thanks, Cloudflare).
Beneath the buzzwords, one message was unmistakable: cross-border collaboration is no longer optional, it’s essential.
At Stanford Health Care and the Stanford School of Medicine, we’re fortunate to be doing truly first-in-the-world implementations. None of this happens without the extraordinary colleagues and teams across TDS, SHC operations, and our Research teams. They deserve the real credit for the impact being delivered at SHC.
Throughout Davos, Anurang and I had the opportunity to share our work and learn how others are navigating the intersection of data, technology, and human agency. A consistent takeaway:
AI must move from pilots to practical, scalable deployments.
This requires a mindset shift. AI won’t be “a thing” we implement. It will be embedded everywhere, often invisible, and ultimately judged not by novelty but by outcomes. That means focusing on process redesign, governance, and continuous monitoring, not just models and tools.
A special shout-out to John Werner for another outstanding showcase day at the Imagination in Action House. The discussions around AI impact, risk, energy, and geopolitics were incredibly insightful. I appreciated the opportunity to share innovations underway at SHC, including:
- ChatEHR — our AI summarization and prompting tool embedded directly into the EHR
- Our first agentic AI workflow supporting tumor board preparation and summarization
- Ambient voice and video technologies now being implemented
(Thanks to DAX and Artisight for the partnership.)
Always energizing to spend time with my friend Ray Wang, and grateful for the chance to participate in the AI vs. Humanity debate at Cognizant House. We agreed—it’s not AI vs. Humanity, it’s AI + Humanity.
Appreciate the ongoing partnership with HCL and the opportunity to participate in their panel.
A pleasure meeting the one and only Dan Ives—what a great conversation. Thank you as well to Ann Rosenberg, Celonis, and the broader delegation for the thoughtful dialogue and leadership throughout the week.
Davos 2026 reinforced something I strongly believe: technology alone doesn’t transform systems; people, partnerships, and purpose do.
